Frequently Asked Questions

What is PokerSkill in one sentence?

Poker Skill teaches real poker decisions through quick, guided lessons and daily puzzles you can play anytime.

Is this gambling? Will I risk real money here?

No. Poker Skill isn't gambling-you never risk real money here. It's a learning app designed to build real poker skills through quick, daily, brain-training style practice.

Why build this now?

Because learning poker shouldn't feel intimidating. Most tools today are either tied to gambling or buried in heavy, overly technical strategy. We're making poker approachable-short reps, clear feedback, and steady progress you can feel, without the pressure of being a a high-stakes table.

Who's building this? Why trust us?

We're veteran game designers with previous exits-including a company sold to Zynga-and we're backed by serious gaming investors. Above all, we're obsessed with poker. We're building the kind of learning tool we wish existed when we started.

I've never played poker. Is this beginner-friendly?

Yes. Poker Skill is beginner-friendly-we start with the basics like cards, hand rankings, and simple "which hand wins?" decisions. But the journey doesn't stop there: the app gradually progresses into betting flow, advanced strategy, GTO concepts, and the same decision-making skills used by pros. Whether you're brand new or already strong, there's real depth waiting for you.

I play home games and want to stop making costly mistakes. Will this help?

Yes. Poker Skill is built exactly for that. The app gives you quick reps on the same kinds of decisions you face in home games, helping you spot leaks, avoid costly mistakes, and feel way more confident when the cards are actually on the table.

I'm a serious improver. Is there real depth here?

Yes. Poker Skill goes well beyond the basics. You'll work through advanced postflop patterns, the math that actually drives winning play-EV, fold equity, ICM-and full tournament strategy. The curriculum includes spaced reviews and tougher challenges to push your ceiling and sharpen pro-level decision making.

I just want a fun, daily puzzle. Is there one?

Definitely. Poker Skill has a fun Daily Puzzle with a calendar and archives, perfect for a quick hit of poker each day. It keeps your streak going, reinforces what you've learned, and helps you build positive poker habits without any grind.

How long is a lesson?

Each lesson takes about 90 seconds. You work through 5-10 quick steps, each focused on a single idea, with instant feedback and a review of anything you've missed.

What's the starting track?

We start you with the core fundamentals. First you'll learn cards, hand rankings, and how winning hands are actually decided. Then we walk you through how a hand of poker flows-preflop, flop, turn, river-so you always know what's happening and why. It's a simple, confidence-building track that sets you up for everything that comes next.

What does "EV-based feedback" look like in-app?

EV-based feedback means we show you the expected value of your decision-whether it gained or lost value compared to the best possible play in that spot. In plain English, we tell you if your choice would win more or less money over time.

For players who want the technical side: we show how close your line was to our solver's optimal line (like "+1.1bb vs. optimal") along with a short explanation of why-so you get both clear guidance and real, solver-backed detail.

How deep does it go?

Pretty deep. After the basics, we take you into the full range of modern poker concepts-preflop ranges, board textures, c-bet patterns, exploit spots, combo counting, EV and fold-equity math, SPR, ICM, push/fold, and more. Everything is clearly labeled from beginner to advanced, so you can learn at your level and keep pushing higher.

Do you cover tournament strategy?

Yes. We cover the full range of tournament strategy-how to adjust by stack size, handle ICM and bubble pressure, play final tables, approach satellites and turbos, and even manage the mental game during long runs. If you play tournaments, you'll find a lot here.

How do stars/XP/streaks work?

Each lesson gives you stars and XP based on how well you play through the decisions. You can earn up to three stars, build XP as you go, and keep a daily streak going through the puzzle-and-lesson loop. We'll also offer optional streak shields so you don't lose progress on busy days.

Do you track my strengths and leaks?

Yes. We track how you're doing across different concepts so you can see both your strengths and the spots that need work. When you miss something, it goes into your Review Queue, which brings those concepts back at the right time to help you actually fix the leak-not just memorize the answer.

What powers the feedback?

Our feedback is powered by a Pluribus-style poker engine-built on the same family of CFR methods that produced the first AI to beat pros in 6-max No-Limit Hold'em. In simple terms, the same engine that can play at a high level is the one giving you feedback, so every lesson is grounded in real, solver-strength strategy.

Is this just another quiz app?

No. Poker Skill isn't a quiz app. We use real poker hands and a high-level engine to figure out the strongest actions, then turn those spots into bite-size lessons and a Daily Puzzle with clear, plain-English feedback. It's real training, not trivia.

Are you going to charge money for this app?

Our app is free to play. We are building a subscription "plus" tier which will unlock unlimited play, ad-free experience, and some premium features- we're dedicated to helping all our users keep the core habit loop front-and-center so you can have fun while brain training and building muscle memory.

How often do you publish product updates?

We ship updates constantly-new challenges, features, achievements, and content every week. You can check the "What's New" section anytime, and if you have ideas or requests, just hit "Submit Feedback" in the Early Access tab. We're building this with you.

Is there a multiplayer mode?

Not yet, but it's coming. We're working on a live multiplayer mode with skill-based matchmaking, optional AI coaching, hand replays, and leaderboards-all designed to stay educational and fair.

Can I create home games?

Not yet, but it's on the roadmap. You'll be able to create custom home games with friends-private tables, your own blinds, and even optional AI seats-so you can play together alongside the lesson-first core experience.

What skills does poker practice build?

Poker builds a surprising number of real-world skills. With regular reps, you sharpen probabilistic thinking, pattern recognition, and time management, while also leveling up the "people" side of the game-reading situations, staying composed, and making clear decisions under pressure. It's decision hygiene in action: you make the call, you own the outcome, and you get better through repetition. Poker is a true mind sport that trains both your math and your judgment at the same time.
